In its first edition, the Festival brought together 52 artists from 12 countries, including Nelson Freire, Antanas Sutkus, Pedro Soler, Adélia Prado and Yevgeny Yevtushenko. There were two weeks of intense integrated arts programming, an unprecedented concept for festivals in Brazil.

The program of the Festival included:

 5  visual arts exhibitions
 9  literature readings
 3  theater performances
 6  cinema sessions
